Reseña del libro

This guidebook tells you all you need to know about climbing Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas. It describes ascents via the Normal route (taking 12 days) or the Vacas Valley route (14 days), with additional sections on summitting and getting down safely. The treks cover difficult mountain terrain up to 6962m and are suitable for experienced trekkers and mountaineers only. Important advice on acclimatisation is given, and several acclimatisation treks are described, within Aconcagua Provincial Park, near Mendoza (Vallecitos), the Maipo volcano and near Santiago (El Plomo). It also describes routes up the remote peak Tupungato. Lying in the Republic of Argentina, very close to the border with Chile, Aconcagua is the highest peak in the world outside of the Himalayas and the mountains of eastern Asia. Not only is it one of the world's great mountains, it offers the climber the best value in terms of altitude gained for effort expended. The guide contains essential information on acclimatisation, weather, travel, equipment, porters, mules and choosing a guide or an expedition organiser. Also includes information on geology, flowers and wildlife, customs and traditions to help the trekker get the most out of the experience.
