Edward Planta Nesbit was a schoolmaster, author and land agent in Angaston, South Australia, during the 19th century. Nesbit is perhaps the first to formulate the radical theory that Jesus was a member of the ascetic, celibate and secretive Essenes, today best known as the originators Dead Sea Scrolls.
