Collected in this book are two of the most important Swedish plays of the twentieth century. We are first presented with A Dream Play, one of August Strindberg’s greatest plays, which features a goddess visiting Earth to witness humanity, and ultimately pitying it. Secondly, we are presented with The Night of the Tribades by Per Olov Enquist, a portrayal of Strindberg featuring all of his complexes and weaknesses, in which a production of a Strindberg play turns into a deadly argument between the playwright and the actress Siri, who was still his wife at the time.
