Este es un libro de terror. Al igual que en Frankenstein, nosotros hemos construido al monstruo, nosotros somos sus victimas y ahora tratamos inutilmente de detenerlo. Los hechos son simples: la poblacion mundial crece, los recursos tienen un limite, y las consecuencias de explotar esos recursos estan cambiando de forma irreversible las condiciones de vida de nuestro planeta. No se trata de una denuncia mas. El autor de este libro es un cientifico y todo cuanto aparece en estas paginas procede de estudios comprobados que nos transmiten el mismo mensaje: Estamos condenados. Tiramos la mitad de lo que compramos como si los productos fueran inagotables; explotamos los recursos naturales como si salieran de la nada; y seguimos extendiendonos por la faz del planeta. Hagamos lo que hagamos, cerremos los ojos, nos vayamos a vivir al campo o nos suicidemos, el resultado sera el mismo. We throw away half of what we consumeas if everything is inexhaustible; we exploit natural resources as if they came from nothing, and we continue to spread across the face of the earth. Whatever we do, whether we escape to the countryside or kill ourselves, the result is the same. We will not be able to avoid our own disappearance as a species.
