Reseña del libro

The goal of Evidence-Based Treatment Approaches for Suicidal Adolescents: Translating Science Into Practice is to provide clinicians with a review of the existing evidence-based psychotherapy approaches for the treatment of suicidal adolescents, along with practical guidelines for how to implement these approaches in their practices. In service of that objective, the book includes a chapter, written by the treatment developer(s), on each of the six treatments that have been shown in randomized controlled trials to reduce suicidal and/or self-harm behavior in adolescents with prior histories of these behaviors. The six treatments described are dialectical behavior therapy, mentalization-based therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy for co-occurring suicidal behavior and substance use, multisystemic therapy, attachment-based family therapy, and the Safe Alternatives for Teens and Youths (SAFETY) program. These practice-friendly treatment reviews are bracketed by chapters on risk factors for adolescent suicide attempts and suicide deaths, guidelines for basic safety measures for at-risk youth, and current research and clinical guidelines on medication management with suicidal youth.Clinicians and researchers alike will find the vital and pragmatic material in Evidence-Based Treatment Approaches for Suicidal Adolescents: Translating Science Into Practice to be a major resource in their efforts to prevent suicide, reduce suffering, and improve the lives of adolescents and their family members.
