Franny Callaghan feels invisible. With a mother who speaks to the family through the closed door of her bedroom, and a father and younger sister who are only home long enough to wash their clothes before heading to the next speed-skating competition, Franny feels alone. Franny's brother died a few years ago. Her family hasn't spoken of him since the day of his funeral and the news coverage of the accident that killed eight members of the Ridgewood High School Orchestra.
