This book was created for the medical practitioner new to the field of ultrasound. We have designed the contents of this book to deliver a clear and practical approach to performing obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound exams. We begin with an introduction to ultrasound principles, artifacts and instrumentation followed by anatomy, scanning technique and image orientation. We review the non-gravid pelvis including IUD placement and common abnormalities. We review first trimester scanning technique including the assessment of the pregnancy week by week and abnormal findings. We include the biophysical profile, amniotic fluid assessment, third trimester growth, fetal position, placenta, cervix, multigestations, and common anomalies. The focus of this book is to give you a firm foundation for point of care ob-gyn ultrasound. This book also contains all the information necessary to prepare nurse-midwives to pass the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Midwife Sonography Certification Exam. We have been teaching these classes for over a decade and are thrilled that there is finally a certification available.
