Manifiesto del Tercer paisaje se ha convertido en uno de los textos clave para entender el paisajismo contemporáneo. Gilles Clément vuelca en él un programa para el Tercer paisaje, aquel que aparece en las cunetas de las carreteras, en los lugares residuales de las ciudades, en los espacios de transición entre la ciudad y el campo que no han sido controlados por la acción deliberada del hombre.
