The suggested response of this movement is to enlighten the public, as well as the client, to avoid stigmatizing words in fear that some folks will avoid treatment due to such words. Treatment is meant to prepare the person to deal with life without their drug of choice and treatment lasts only a few days. Then how is the person to deal with the stigma? How are they able to receive long term support of 12 step groups that use the very terms they were taught to avoid?
