Internet of things (IoT) is a network of interconnected devices which are embedded with sensors and software. Each device has a unique identifier. These devices are capable of sharing data with each other across networks without the need of human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT devices can share data over both wired and wireless connections. Some of the wireless technologies which are used widely are Bluetooth, near field communication, radio frequency identification and light fidelity systems. Common examples of IoT devices include wearable health monitors, smart home systems, biometric scanners, etc. Internet of things finds application in various fields such as manufacturing, agriculture, energy management, transportation and healthcare.
