Of all the differences between Sephardim and Ashkenazim, the one that seems to be most disorienting to the one visiting and participating is prayer. The words and movement of prayer is ingrained within us from childhood making it difficult for us to adjust when needed. The unavoidable reality for any observant Jew living in modern times, and certainly for a Sephardi student attending an Ashkenazi school, is that often there is no choice but to join an Ashkenaz minyan. This Manual of Halachot U'minhagim is designed to guide a Sephardi high school student during his prayer in both his own Minyan and in an Ashkenazi Minyan. R' Yosef Albo is the Director of Sephardi Programming and Talmud teacher at the RAMAZ Upper School.
