Everyone has right and everyone has virtue.Each of the spouses has a right over the other, as well as eachof them has matters of virtue with regard to the other, which isevident in the verses of Quran and Hadith that talked aboutthe rights of the husband and wife, one of (these verses) is: His Almighty's saying: { المعروف ���� ولھن مثل الذي علیھن ب } "And dueto them [i.e., the wives] is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable". It means: They (husbands)should fear Allah towards them (wives) just as it is obligatoryfor them (wives) to fear Allah towards them (husbands). Ibn'Abbas said: I adorn myself for my wife as she adorns herselffor me, because Allah says: { ولھن مثل الذي علیھن بالمعروف } "Anddue to them [i.e., the wives] is similar to what is expected ofthem, according to what is reasonable".1 Each spouse hasrights over the other, so each of them should fulfil other'sright.The wife should fulfil the rights of her husband by obeyinghim and protecting his home and money. Describing thegreatness of the husband's right, the prophet -Peace andblessings of Allah be upon him- said: لو كنت آمراً أحداً أن یسجد لأحدا�������� جد لزوجھ �������� رأة أن تس �������� رت الم �������� لأم ) "If I were to order anyone toprostrate himself before another, I would have ordered awoman to prostrate herself before her husband".2And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)said to a woman: ( ا���� ت م ���� ھ ؟ قال ���� أذات زوج أنت ؟ قالت نعم قال كیف أنت لآلوه ( أي لا أقصّر في حقھ ) إلا ما عجزت عنھ . قال فانظري أین أنت منھ فإنماارك ���� ك ون ���� و جنت ���� ھ) "Do you have a husband?" She said, "Yes." Hesaid: "How are you with him?" She said, "I do not neglect any1 Al-Mughni (10/220), Editted by Dr. Al-Turki, a, d Al-Hulw. He said: "Look at how you are with him, for he is your paradise andyour hell".1 And he ordered the husband to act kindly towardwomen, as he said: ( رًا ���� اءِ خَیْ ���� وا بِالنِّسَ ���� اسْتَوْصُ ) "act kindly towardswomen".2 And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah beupon him) said in his last sermon: ( إِنَّكُمْ �������� اءِ فَ �������� ي النِّسَ �������� َ فِ ���� اتَّقُوا ا َّ �������� فَ���� ةِ ا َّ �������� رُوجَھُنَّ بِكَلِمَ �������� تَحْلَلْتُمْ فُ ���� ِ وَاسْ ���� انِ ا َّ �������� ذْتُمُوھُنَّ بِأَمَ ���� أَخَ ) "Show fear towardsAllah regarding women, for you have got them under Allah'ssecurity, and have the right to intercourse with them byAllah's word."3The husband is required to cajole his wife and win her heart, and to be patien
