Reseña del libro

TOLEDO BETWEEN TWO CENTURIES IN THE PHOTOGRAPH OF SHERIFF CASIANO. In both Spanish and English. Casiano Alguacil Blazquez (Born in Mazarambroz, Toledo Province 1832 - 1914), was a Spanish photographer. His first job was that of a carpenter; He learned photography in Madrid and settled in Toledo in 1862, in the Calle de la Plata number five. From 1866 he began an extensive project, the photographic museum that would preserve views of the city of Toledo and other Spanish cities and monuments, works of art and portraits of important people. He was also a notable figure in the politics of Toledo of his time. He was a Republican councilman during the revolutionary Presidential term (1868) and in the elections of 1870. He married twice; with his second wife, Elisa, lived a sister who knew French and became the first woman tourist guide in Toledo. Cassian himself published a practical guide to Toledo and its province in 1901. In 1906 he had to donate their glass negatives to the City of Toledo in exchange for a pension. Other of his photographs are preserved in the Hispanic Society of America. He died poor and abandoned at Mercy Hospital of Toledo in 1914. This is an extensive collection of his photos of Toledo.
