Acupuncture is a difficult art to both practice and master. This practice incorporates thousands of years of knowledge and is thus a little convoluted and filled with strange philosophies. Jabbing hundreds of needles into someone in a generally short time span is no mean feat either. While doubtless this knowledge is absolutely necessary, it is not the most important aspect of acupuncture and can be quite confusing for beginners who simply desire to know what acupuncture is to comprehends. This introductory text covers the basic aspects of acupuncture quickly, covering the concepts of "cun" and channel theory, before extensively delving into acupoints and their myriad aspects. The book then progresses to include more than a hundred extra acupoints, diverging from the canonical forty points, so to include a broader choice of acupoints available to the practitioner. It then covers the methods of point selection, one of the most vital fundamentals of acupuncture. The methods are well-presented in a formulaic fashion rather than a wide range of choices, something not done in other books. The final few chapters include cupping and moxibustion, important supplementary tactics that can be used in addition to acupuncture to increase their mutual efficacy. Acupuncture: The Ancient Chinese Text is perhaps one of the few existing introductory texts on acupuncture that is presented in an organized fashion that almost anyone can understand, though it is not a stand-alone text. This book should definitely be supplemented by other books as soon as the reader's knowledge can grasp the basic foundations of acupuncture. Learning acupuncture is not an easy task. May Acupuncture: The Ancient Chinese Text help readers interested in Eastern medicine help them on the path to understanding and learning this interesting practice that's survived for thousands of years.
