Plant viruses are intracellular obligatory parasites made up of nucleoprotein and are responsible to cause disease in diverse plant species. Over a century, more than one thousand plant viruses have been known to reduce the yield and quality of horticultural, ornamental and vegetable crops worldwide. As there is no cure for virus disease, the management options emphasizes on exclusion of the virus minimizing virus spread, and development of host plant resistance. Poppy (Papaver somniferum) is an important medicinal plant. It has high economic value for its alkaloids and secondary metabolites. Many diseases reported on P. somniferum, the opium poppy, includes bacterial, fungal, five species of nematodes and some viruses have been reported to infect poppy. However, there is no record of any Begomovirus on Papaver sominifera was encountered during the literature survey, therefore this book will be useful to Research Scholars working on begomoviruses and other related plant viruses of various research Institute and Universities.
