Reseña del libro "Cake, Anyone? Scenes From Everyday Life in Extraordinary Times (en Inglés)"

"Just what we need for lockdown times! Funny, sad, just brilliant tales of our lockdown times — and great illustrations. Get it for all your cake-loving friends." — 5★ Amazon reviewWhile life as we know it is falling apart, there is always cake (as long as you have flour, that is).In this collection of nonfiction, Liz Champion captures the chaos, confusion and comedy of her daily life in lockdown. Whether it’s introducing a new three-mop cleaning system, hunting for flour, planning socially distanced birthdays, moving house (yes, moving house in a pandemic), or trying to navigate the new normal with an asthma cough, parents and misbehaving dogs, Liz shares stories that are honest, relatable, and quick to find the funny side of life.In a year when there’s not been much to smile about, Liz’s stories always elicit a chuckle. So put the kettle on, cut yourself some cake, and join her as she serves up slices of lockdown life that are guaranteed to make you smile.“What an absolutely delightful book. A tender, funny, and poignant recounting of the author’s journey through the pandemic. I just love Liz Champion’s writing style, and Glenda Strong’s illustrations were the perfect accompaniment. You can’t help but fall in love with Liz and her family, and find her tales relatable. This has to be the perfect way to close out this year, finding humour in a time that has been so challenging for so many.” — 5★ Amazon review.“Cake, Anyone? is a lovely set of true-to-life, everyday domestic stories from a fresh voice in comic writing. Liz Champion is a talented raconteur, putting a hilarious twist to her lockdown life in the UK with her long-suffering husband, two dogs, a room full of books, her shielding parents, and a competitive sister. (Has anyone got a sister who isn't competitive?) There are disasters, like the roof nearly caving in before a house sale, but also lots of laughter, and, naturally, plenty of cake.” — 5★ Amazon review.Interview with the AuthorQ. Tell us more about Cake, Anyone?Cake, Anyone? Scenes from Everyday Life in Extraordinary Times is a collection of funny (at least, I hope they’re funny) nonfiction stories about life in lockdown. They are scenes from the everyday. But don’t let that put you off! Readers say they are actually quite entertaining. One even said, ‘they’re a hoot in these dark days’, and it wasn’t even my mum.Q. Why did you write Cake, Anyone?I started writing the stories in Cake, Anyone? during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. I’d been working on another book for a long time, but because of the stress and anxiety of the virus, the words on that project just wouldn’t come. Instead, I wrote about what was happening all around me, focusing on daily life in an extraordinary time. The more I wrote, the more I tried to find the funny things in life, because being able to laugh, or even just smile, seemed to make the dark days a little brighter. I shared the stories on my blog and readers started contacting me saying they enjoyed them.I kept writing and sharing, trying to find the comedy in everyday life during lockdown. It helped me cope with what was happening. And if it made people smile, even better. Towards the end of the year, I’d had such a positive response that I put the stories together in this short memoir collection.Q. What books are similar to Cake, Anyone? My book is similar to Dawn O-Porter’s Life in Pieces, a funny memoir about lockdown life. Q. Why should readers give this book a try?If you are looking for a light-hearted read that makes you smile, then Cake, Anyone? is for you. At a time like this, humour can really help. I hope you enjoy it.
