Stem cells are the cells with the unique ability to differentiate into specialized cell types. The bone marrow, blood and adipose tissue are the three known accessible sources of adult stem cells in humans. Such adult stem cells are of use in various medical therapies for the treatment and prevention of diseases or conditions. Bone marrow transplant is the most common stem-cell therapy.
