Becoming an "expert" in the cutting, hauling, splitting and burning firewood requires hard work, willingness to learn, and a constant focus on the task. However, many people did not grow up in the woods with the luxury of years of self-training to gain the experience familiar to the knowledgeable woodsman, as well as learning the dangers associated with the firewood gathering process. Differently stated, many people want to learn the firewood process from the tree to the stove, but do not have the time to learn every firewood "secret" the hard way through years of trial and error. While there is no substitute for experience, this book attempts to provide many of the firewood insider secrets that are otherwise difficult to purge from those who know them well, or are simply not available for you to learn those details. Ultimately, you want to fill your firewood stacks with seasoned ready wood, either for yourself or for others as a business, without getting hurt. Since every tree taken for firewood presents different challenges, it is a precarious position to call oneself an expert when working with dangerous cutting tools intended to fell objects that alone weigh many tons.
