The group of cancers that begin in the throat, mouth, nose, salivary glands, sinuses and larynx are collectively called head and neck cancer. Some of the common symptoms are neck pain, sinus congestion, mass in the neck, bad breath, enlarged lymph glands, hoarse voice, etc. The diagnosis of head and neck cancer is done ideally through a needle biopsy of the lesion and a histopathological investigation. Depending on the tumor site, health issues, previous primary tumor occurrence, relative morbidity of treatment options, etc., an appropriate treatment strategy is devised. Most head and neck cancers are treated through surgical resection and radiation therapy. Chemotherapy may also be combined with other treatment strategies for better survival and control of the cancer.
