As of 2010, The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK), a Chinese Proficiency Test administered by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, is divided into six levels of difficulty. HSK 3 is intended for test takers who studied Chinese for about one and a half years and who are thus able to communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily lives.
