When Jim Holl moved to New York's SoHo district in the mid-1970s, he found himself in the epicentre of the city's booming art scene. Immersing himself in the all the city had to offer, Holl began an artistic dialogue with numerous art forms - including anti-art, performance art, installation art, pop art, conceptual art, relational aesthetics, painting, and sculpture - that would continue throughout his entire career. "The Landscape Painter" is a magnificently illustrated volume that explores Holl's efforts to understand the dichotomy between thinking and feeling, art and life, artifice and authenticity, set against the backdrop of the events and theories he witnessed living and working in New York from 1974 to 1994.
