La Catedral de Jaén a examen II A lo largo de la historia de la catedral de Jaén se constata la preocupación de obispos y capitulares por conseguir un amueblamiento competente con su arqui-tectura. Esto explicaría los esfuerzos realizados para lograr que algunos de los maestros más destacados de las artes plásticas y decorativas de la Edad Moderna, pasaran o dejaran obras de calidad que estuvieran a la altura de la que era no solo la iglesia mayor de una importante diócesis, sino también el relicario de la vene-rada Verónica. Junto a las piezas ejecutadas por artistas españoles, la catedral de Jaén también recibió otras de fuera de la Península Ibérica. Destacados talleres artísticos europeos, especialmente italianos y ﬂ amencos, así como de América y Filipinas dejaron su huella en la colección catedralicia. Estas obras han sido es-tudiadas en profundidad por investigadores nacionales y extranjeros y sus con-clusiones se publican en este libro que sitúa al templo mayor giennense en los circuitos artísticos más ﬂ orecientes de la Edad Moderna. The Cathedral of Jaén under Scrutiny II Throughout the history of the cathedral of Jaén, it is possible to verify how obtaining furni-shing attuned to the architecture was a constant source of concern to bishops. This would explain the efforts made to achieve that some of the most outstanding artists of the plastic and decorative arts of the Modern Age worked or donated quality works that could be compared to a building that was not only the Main Church of an important diocese but also the reliquary of the venerated Veronica. Along with the pieces made by Spanish artists, the cathedral of Jaén also received other works made outside of the Iberian Peninsula. Outs-tanding European art workshops, mainly Italian and Flemish, but also from America and the Philippines left their mark on the collection of the cathedral. These works have been studied in depth by national and foreign researchers, and their conclusions are published in this book, which situated the cathedral of Jaén in the context of the most ﬂ ourishing circuits of the Modern Age.
