This book is the sequel to La Familia "The Family" The Adventures of Tony the Turtle. The first book left you hanging now join in on the fun, adventure, danger, and even unexpected romance on this sequel La Jornada "The Journey" The Adventures of Tony the Turtle. Yes, you will meet odd characters like Beto the Beaver, Tencha Tejona ("Hortence the Badger"--literal translation, but for dramatic purposes, she is more of a possum.) Haha! There is also the gruesome, fearsome, and river lurking, Lazaro Lagarto, (Aligator Larry) who tries to actually eat the raft and all who are......well, I get ahead of myself. It is a journey to a new land to start a new life. As they were introduced in the first book, this turtle family has colorful shells. This makes them unique as well as ridiculed. They maintain their turtle dignity and persevere ever closer to their destination of the village Prickly Pear. They trudge along as fast as turtles can once they hit dry land Their help is a sort of wanna-be cowboy / hero / guide Arnoldo Armadillo. There is so much to tell, see, learn, and experience in this story. It is English based and has some proper Spanish translation utilizing colorful phrases. It is higher level reading material than the first book, perhaps appealing to upper elementary level students and into junior high reading level and intrigue. Key themes in this book are FAMILY VALUES, PERSEVERANCE, and SELF-RESPECT. The art work done by Rene Lopez is definitely an upgrade in development and expression and we are sure you will be swept away by the humor and detail of the many drawings through out the book that help tell the story.
