Reseña del libro "practical reliability engineering, 5th edition"

the strength of the fourth edition is in delivery of a very good overview of reliability mathematics, engineering methods, and practices.  most other reliability books either focus heavily on reliability mathematics (meeker and escobar, etc.) or on the technology and physics of failure (ohring, etc.)  this book strikes a good balance combining both reliability mathematics and reliability engineering providing the basic knowledge needed for engineering students and reliability engineers at the earlier stages of their careers.  the goal of the fifth edition is to maintain the same academic and practical level of the material, while bringing it up to date with modern reliability engineering practices as they continue to evolve. the book is an introduction to reliability engineering, covering reliability and life cycle cost, and a different perspective on reliability-cost curve.  it introduces other minor changes reflecting modern state of reliability practice. the second part of the book looks at reliability mathematics. the section on weibull distribution is expanded to include more rationale, mathematics, examples, and practical applications of the two- parameter and three-parameter weibull, and discusses the pros and cons for using each. the references and screen shots of minitab, reliasoft, relex, and other software packages with examples are shown. the bibliography section is updated with the newer material.  the third chapter covers probability plotting and is very heavily revised with new references and plots to the modern reliability software (minitab, reliasoft, relex, etc.). reliasoft screen shots and other software is described to bring the book thoroughly up-to-date.  a new section on repairable systems is included.  the fourth chapter gives an overview of load-strength interference, with new real life examples using reliability software; there is also a new section on risk analysis (the outdated chapter on statistical experiments has been removed). there is more material on reliability prediction and modelling, reliability in design. the chapter on electronic systems reliability has had serious revision due to rapid changes in electronics technology.  other new material includes: basic equations for acceleration factors related to temperature, thermal cycling, voltage, and vibration; and newer pictures with newer electronic components technology. the chapter on reliability testing has had some revisions, including updates to the european iec and asian test standards. an example of the reliability test flow (both sequential and parallel) is explained with more material on accelerated life testing.  the chapter analysing reliability data (test, field, and warranty data) is now split into two: reliability test data analysis and field and warranty data analysis. towards the end of the book, maintainability, maintenance and availability includes more on repairable systems mathematics and availability/ maintainability concepts, as well as added coverage of mttr, cm, pm, and cost basics of maintenance programs. reliability management now discusses program planning, design validation, process validation, and other steps in managing reliability aspects of a program.
