Alex S. Vitale, nacido en Houston en 1965, es profesor de Sociología y coordinador del Proyecto de Policía y Justicia Social en el Brooklyn College. Con una trayectoria de más de treinta años, ha trabajado como consultor para departamentos de policía y organizaciones de derechos humanos a nivel internacional.

Entre sus obras destacadas se encuentra "City of Disorder: How the Quality of Life Campaign Transformed New York Politics" (2009), donde analiza las políticas urbanas en Nueva York. Además, en 2017 publicó "The End of Policing", traducido al español como "El final del control policial" (2021), donde cuestiona la eficacia de las prácticas policiales contemporáneas y propone alternativas para abordar problemas sociales. Sus escritos se centran en la criminología y las políticas públicas, aportando una visión crítica sobre la función de la policía en la sociedad actual.
