She abhors the thought of his fathering any children she might have. Beneath an ever-darkening shadow, Kyle fills the hours in his life with myriad church and civic organizations. His acquaintances see him only as the take-charge organizer who always gives 100%. Inwardly isolated, Kyle searches for an acceptable end. Alone, friendless and threatened by her husband's military pals, Kari fills her days with long Skype conversations with her parents a world away, then dreads the daily 2:00 a.m. calls to his overseas base her husband demands. She sees no acceptable escape. The Heart Rules the Night is a rare and revealing romance written from a male's perspective.
