Alberto Manguel es un escritor, editor, traductor y ensayista argentino-canadiense, nacido en Buenos Aires el 13 de marzo de 1948. Reconocido internacionalmente por su profunda reflexión sobre la lectura, los libros y las bibliotecas, Manguel ha dedicado gran parte de su obra a explorar el vínculo entre el ser humano y la palabra escrita.

Durante su juventud, trabajó brevemente como lector para Jorge Luis Borges, experiencia que marcó profundamente su vida y su visión del acto de leer. En los años 1980, se trasladó a Canadá, donde se nacionalizó y desarrolló gran parte de su carrera como autor. Vivió también en otros países, como Francia y Alemania, y ha trabajado en diversos roles vinculados al mundo editorial, académico y bibliotecario.

Entre sus libros más conocidos están Una historia de la lectura (1996), La biblioteca de noche (2006) y El viajero con el equipaje ligero (2011). Su obra mezcla memoria personal, historia cultural y crítica literaria, con un estilo erudito pero accesible.

Fue director de la Biblioteca Nacional de la Argentina entre 2016 y 2018. Considerado un gran humanista contemporáneo, Manguel sigue siendo una figura influyente en el pensamiento sobre la cultura escrita y la lectura como forma de conocimiento y libertad.
