Reseña del libro "Union County New Jersey, Here the British Turned: How Union County helped win the American Revolution (en Inglés)"

Union County, New Jersey played an important role in America's War for Independence from the British. There are more than 30 Revolutionary War Sites in Union County identifying where Founding Fathers lived and where historic battles were fought. Because of New Jersey's position in the new nation, it was the crossroads of the Revolution. By some accounts, Washington's Army spent almost half of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey. The 1st Continental Congress was held in New Jersey, and William Livingston from Union County was a delegate. He was also New Jersey's 1st Governor. Many Union County residents were influential Patriots and helped the Independence effort. Unlike most states, New Jersey women and people of color could vote in elections during the Revolution. Hannah Caldwell, from Union County, is believed to be the first civilian woman killed by the British during the War and her tragic story became a rallying point for the Patriots. Union County was the site of the last major battle in the northern states. After the Battle of Springfield, the British left New Jersey and the North. Union County was home to signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the President of the Continental Congress who authorized the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Revolutionary War. This short book presents the exciting story about Union County's role in winning America's Independence. Overview Primarily designed for 4th graders, the book provides a baseline of information on five Union County Patriots, four major battles and a few local interest stories. It includes basic illustrations, a list of 30 revolutionary war sites, a short history quiz and over 70 endnotes. Are you smarter than a 4th grader?
