It is important to understand the increasing use of distributed generation in industry and its technical progression; the universal power electronics interface will enable distributed generation (DG) to provide increased functionality by improving its power quality; this will increase power system capacity by reducing contributions to outages and adaptability with other DG sources. I n addition, in order to support the different types of renewable sources available, a universal power electronics interface will therefore be important to enable energy management control between different power sources, loads and energy storage devices, which is unavoidable when AC power is unavailable or when various independent regular converters are used, increasing the total cost of the system, due to the high number of components and complexity of control. This makes the universal power converter ideal for applications using renewable energy sources.
