Es un mangaka. Comenzó siendo asistente de Shin Morimura y en 2000 debutó con Planetes, que más tarde tuvo adaptación de anime.

En 2004 publicó Sayonara ga chikai no de, un one-shot sobre los últimos días de Akita Soli, capitán del primer escuadrón de los Shinsengumi.

En 2005 comenzó la publicación de Vinland Saga en la Shukan Shonen Magazine, pero más tarde se trasladó a la Afternoon.
