Jay Asher, nacido en California en 1975, es un reconocido autor del género Young Adult, alcanzando su fama gracias a su primera novela Por trece razones y su adaptación a serie de televisión.

Estudió en California Polytechnic State University después de graduarse en el instituto de San Luis Obispo, pero abandonó sus estudios de Magisterio en el último curso para dedicarse plenamente a la escritura. Trabajó en diversos oficios, tales como librero, bibliotecario, dependiente en una tienda de zapatos, entre otro, muchos de estos trabajos le han influenciado a la hora de crear sus historias.

Escribió sus dos primeras novelas infantiles nada más graduarse del instituto, pero no fue hasta el año 2007 que alcanzó el éxito con la publicación de su novela Por trece razones, de género Young Adult, el libro fue best-seller en el New York Times y obtuvo numerosos premios, alcanzó su fama mundialmente gracias a la producción de la serie en Netflix. Posteriormente ha escrito tres libros: Tu & yo, aquí, ahora (2012), Dos vidas (2017) y Piper (2017).
