Peter Heather nació en Irlanda del Norte en 1960 y estudió en el Maidstone Grammar School y en el New College de Oxford. Ha impartido clases en el University College de Londres y en la Universidad de Yale. Actualmente es profesor del departamento de Historia Medieval del Worcester College de Oxford.
