Throughout nine chapters, the authors address the difficulties in identifying the impact of a program among multiple factors, they explain how its possible to randomize a study and if this can be done at a group or individual level, mention the usefulness of the theory of change to develop a comprehensive data collection plan, explain how to use the analysis of power to choose the sample size, the number of treatment branches and the minimum detectable effect, as well as the way to minimize the risk of errors in the evaluation. Finally, they address the way in which the evidence from randomized evaluations can provide intuitions for policies and how to make cost-effective comparisons.
