Georg Simmel (Berlín, 1858 - Estrasburgo, 1918) fue un filósofo y sociólogo alemán, considerado uno de los padres de la sociología moderna. Estudió historia y filosofía en la Universidad de Berlín, donde se doctoró en 1881 y posteriormente enseñó filosofía entre 1885 y 1914. En 1914, fue nombrado profesor en la Universidad de Estrasburgo.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran "Los Problemas de la Filosofía de la Historia" (1892), "La Filosofía del Dinero" (1900), "La Metrópolis y la Vida Mental" (1903) y "Sociología: Estudios sobre las formas de socialización" (1908). Estas obras pertenecen al género de la sociología y la filosofía social.
