Jean Baudrillard fue un sociólogo, filósofo y ensayista francés, reconocido por su análisis crítico de la cultura de masas, el consumo y los medios de comunicación. Su obra se enmarca en el ensayo filosófico y sociológico, con un estilo provocador y especulativo que ha influido ampliamente en el pensamiento contemporáneo. Profesor en la Universidad de París X Nanterre, fue una figura clave en el posmodernismo y la teoría de la simulación.
