It is located on the east bank of the Ocmulgee River, within the city limits of Macon, Georgia. It is located on the Fall Line, where the rolling hills of the Piedmont meet the Atlantic Coastal Plain. The Works Progress Administration sponsored large-scale archaeological digs at the site between 1933 and 1942, and portions of eight mounds were excavated.
