Moving from faith to fact, Bishop begins and ends inside himself. From the haunts of an abandoned rural church to the loose sand of longings, the poet wades through encounters that only offer partial answers, dances that end unfulfilled. Finally, the one dance is left for the reader to engage, Bishop choosing to let the dance come to him somewhere "between what he loves and what he longs for."
