The practice is found all over the world, with numerous cultural variations. It is used as a tool to practice divination, which is to gain insight into the multiple dimensions of life. Other such tools for divination include astrology, numerology, Tarot cards and dowsing. Those who practice chiromancy are generally called palmists, palm readers, hand readers, hand analysts, or chirologists. Cheiro was born William John Warner, (November 1, 1866 - October 8, 1936) and was an Irish astrologer and colorful occult figure of the early 20th century. His sobriquet, Cheiro, derives from the word cheiromancy, meaning palmistry. He was a self-described clairvoyant who taught palmistry, astrology, and Chaldean numerology. During his career, he was celebrated for using these forms of divination to make personal predictions for famous clients and to foresee world events.
