James Earl Carter Jr., conocido como Jimmy Carter, nació el 1 de octubre de 1924 en Plains, Georgia. Fue el 39.º presidente de los Estados Unidos desde 1977 hasta 1981. Antes de su presidencia, Carter se desempeñó como gobernador de Georgia y como oficial naval. Tras dejar la Casa Blanca, ha dedicado su vida a la promoción de los derechos humanos y la paz mundial, fundando el Carter Center en 1982.
