Meet Sweet Pea, a little bunny who lives in a tidy hole by the stream on the south side of the meadow. It is dinnertime. She fixes spaghetti but cannot find the tomato sauce. Her solution? Plant tomatoes and MAKE spaghetti sauce. But uh oh... it isn't as simple as she thinks. First there are NO tomatoes, then there are TOO MANY TOMATOES! She and her buddy String Bean will have to find a way to get rid of them. Sweet Pea's Tale of TOO MANY TOMATOES! is the first in a series of Sweet Pea Tales. The author's illustrations not only enhance the story, they also tell a few tales of their own. There are naughty mice and helpful mice, red birds and blue birds, and one young bunny who seems to get himself in some precarious situations. But Sweet Pea does not seem to notice. She is much too busy trying to get rid of TOO MANY TOMATOES! This 48 page picture book has 36 pages of full page ink and watercolor illustrations by author/illustrator Marcia Leiter which delight readers of all ages from 1 to 101. The simple story and engaging characters hold the attention of the very young, while older readers are fascinated by the detailed illustrations. Adults will not get tired of reading it over and over to children because each time they can discover some new character or hidden visual joke. At the end of the book are 7 pages of activities that compliment the story, including Seek & Find, Recipes, and an Interactive Guide titled "Curious Questions" to get young imaginations working.
