Being a life-long Democrat, the author is extremely concerned about the recent direction of the Democratic Party. In key political offices throughout the country, Republicans are gaining ground. At the same time, public position taken by leading Democrats are largely negative, defensive, and disjointed in nature, on both political and economic issues. Regarding economic issues, the author sees many opportunities that are not being properly addressed by the Democratic leadership. The book provides a simple, clear explanation of how our economy works. It covers key subjects, such as economic output and growth, income distribution, corporations, and the role of government. With this background it addresses important policy issues, such as taxation, social security, trade, immigration, education, and energy. Within these policy chapters, a number of specific proposals are made which should be considered, debated, and pursued by the Democratic leadership.
