organlithium chemistry has seen an amazing development. the small size and the reactivity of lithium have turned it into a prime target of synthetic, theoretical and computational chemists. sapse and schleyer published their key book in 1995. the patai series then published a first volume on organolithium chemistry in early 2004. the demand for this book has shown that there is a need for information on the use of lithium in organic chemistry. four chapters missed the deadline for the first volume: dynamic behavior of organolithium compounds, chiral alkylithium amides in asymmetric synthesis, intramolecular carbolithiation reaction, and pharmacological activities of organolithiums. these four chapters were the starting point for the compilation of volume 2. the literature survey and the peer reviews showed that there has been some more exciting development in organolithium chemistry. this second volume is an important addition of new information to the material published in the previous volume.
