About the Author: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, officially Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger, comte de Saint Exupéry, was a French aristocrat, writer, poet, and pioneering aviator during a period when flying machines were made of sticks and fabric. He became a laureate of several of France's highest literary awards and also won the U.S. National Book Award. He is best remembered for his novella The Little Prince and for his lyrical aviation writings, including Wind, Sand and Stars and Night Flight. Saint-Exupéry was a successful commercial pilot before World War II, working airmail routes in Europe, Africa and South America. At the outbreak of war, he joined the French Air Force, flying reconnaissance missions until France's armistice with Germany in 1940. After being demobilised from the French Air Force, he travelled to the United States to persuade its government to enter the war against Nazi Germany. Following a 27-month hiatus in North America, during which he wrote three of his most important works, he joined the Free French Air Force in North Africa, although he was far past the maximum age for such pilots and in declining health.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (Lyon, 1900 - mar Tirreno, 1944) fue un novelista y aviador francés, cuyas experiencias como piloto inspiraron gran parte de su obra literaria. Nacido en una familia aristocrática (su padre era vizconde), vivió una infancia feliz en las propiedades familiares, aunque perdió a su padre a los cuatro años. Su madre, una mujer culta y sensible, ejerció una profunda influencia en su vida, y mantuvo con ella una extensa correspondencia a lo largo de los años. Saint-Exupéry combinó su pasión por la aviación con la escritura, creando obras que exploran temas como la humanidad, la soledad y el sentido de la vida.

El 6 de abril de 1943 publicó su obra más célebre, El Principito (Le Petit Prince), un relato filosófico y poético que se ha convertido en uno de los libros más traducidos y leídos de la historia, con versiones en más de 250 idiomas. Considerada una de las mejores creaciones literarias del siglo XX, esta obra trasciende generaciones y culturas. Saint-Exupéry desapareció en 1944 durante una misión de reconocimiento en el mar Tirreno, dejando un legado literario que sigue inspirando a millones de lectores en todo el mundo.
