Laura Imai Messina (Roma, 16 de agosto de 1981) es una escritora y académica italiana que reside en Japón desde los 23 años. Se licenció en Letras en la Universidad La Sapienza de Roma y posteriormente se trasladó a Tokio, donde obtuvo un máster en Culturas Comparadas en la International Christian University y un doctorado en Estudios Literarios en la Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

Es autora de varias obras literarias, entre las que destaca Lo que confías al viento (Quel che affidiamo al vento, 2020), un éxito internacional traducido a más de veinte idiomas. La novela se inspira en el "Teléfono del viento", un teléfono simbólico ubicado en Japón que permite a las personas hablar con seres queridos fallecidos, y narra la historia de una mujer que busca sanar tras perder a su familia en el tsunami de 2011. La obra ha sido adaptada al cine por la productora Cattleya.

Además de su carrera como novelista, Laura Imai Messina imparte clases de lengua italiana en universidades japonesas y colabora con medios como La Repubblica y La Stampa. También ha escrito libros infantiles y ensayos sobre Japón, destacándose por su capacidad de tender puentes culturales entre Oriente y Occidente.
