Reseña del libro "The Weight - A Male Nurse's Story of War Guilt and Redemption in 1970s Wales (en Inglés)"

Blaendare, South Wales, 1974.The pits are on strike. Power cuts darken the terraces. And the new district nurse arrives on a heavy black Raleigh bicycle, English, middle-aged, and the first man most people here have ever seen in the role. Doors stay shut. The men in the pub call him names. The valley is proud, suspicious, and barely managing.Owen Jones has come anyway. Thirty years earlier, in a Normandy dressing station, he made a split-second decision that still owns him. He carries two photographs from that summer - one of a German boy who tried to surrender, and one from a Welsh private who died asking for a girl from Blaendare. He has spent the decades since trying, and failing, to balance the scales. What follows is a raw, unsentimental portrait of a mining community under pressure, and of one man's stubborn attempt to atone through ordinary care: dressing ulcers, delivering babies in the middle of the night, sitting with the dying, and slowly earning the right to belong.Atonement meets Call the Midwife in a 1970s Welsh mining valley.
