Ueber die Religion: Reden an die Gebildeten unter ihren Verächtern, or "On Religion: Speeches to Its Cultured Despisers", is a seminal work by Friedrich Schleiermacher, originally published in 1799. Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher (1768–1834) fue un teólogo, filósofo, filólogo y traductor alemán, considerado una de las figuras fundacionales de la hermenéutica moderna. Su pensamiento transformó la interpretación de los textos al proponer que comprender una obra exige atender tanto a su contexto histórico y lingüístico como a la intención singular de su autor. Además de su influencia en la filosofía y la teología protestante, destacó por su traducción al alemán de los diálogos de Platón, trabajo que ejerció una profunda influencia en los estudios clásicos.

Entre sus obras más influyentes se encuentra Lecciones sobre hermenéutica y crítica, recopilación póstuma de sus enseñanzas sobre teoría de la interpretación.
