$ 30.170In October 2024, TIME magazine named Dr. Mahrang Baloch one of the world's 100 most influential emerging leaders. Pakistan's response was to confiscate her passport at the airport gate on the day of her gala. In 2025, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Pakistan's response was to arrest her before dawn and charge her with terrorism for holding a press conference.
Voice of Defiance is the story of what is happening in Balochistan - and why the world has chosen not to see it.
Written by a Baloch asylum seeker who fled to the United States after Pakistani intelligence agents raided his family's ancestral home, this book is the first major English-language testimony of the Baloch experience. It is not written from a comfortable distance. It is written from inside the wound.
Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan - a land with a 9,000-year civilization, once a sovereign state, forcibly annexed by Pakistan at gunpoint in 1948. In the seventy-seven years since, Pakistan has extracted 40 percent of its national energy from Balochistan's gas fields while the villages above those fields remain dark at night. A trillion-dollar copper and gold deposit has been sold in pieces to foreign governments without a single community's consent. More than 23,000 people have been forcibly disappeared , taken from hospitals, checkpoints, and their own homes, never charged, many never seen again. Over half of Balochistan's children have never attended school. Eight out of ten girls cannot read.
This book covers all of it: the illegal annexation and its legal violations of multiple international treaties, five generations of resistance and military repression, the systematic looting of Balochistan's natural resources through CPEC and Chinese investment, the women who lead this movement because the men who speak out disappear, the Nobel-nominated doctor currently in a prison cell, the ten-year-old girl whose father was taken from a hospital and who has spent fifteen years searching for him, and the author's own journey from Dubai, where agencies hunted him, to the United States, where he could finally write freely.
This is not a call to arms. It is a call to conscience.
