Samuel Beckett fue un dramaturgo, novelista y poeta irlandés, nacido el 13 de abril de 1906 en Dublín y fallecido el 22 de diciembre de 1989 en París. Es ampliamente reconocido como una de las figuras más influyentes del teatro del absurdo. Estudió en el Trinity College de Dublín, donde se especializó en lenguas romances. Tras un periodo como lector en la École Normale Supérieure de París, se instaló definitivamente en Francia, país que marcó profundamente su vida y obra.

Beckett escribió tanto en inglés como en francés, y su estilo se caracteriza por el minimalismo, el humor negro y la exploración de temas como la desesperanza, el tiempo y la condición humana. Su obra más célebre, Esperando a Godot (1953), marcó un hito en el teatro contemporáneo al subvertir las convenciones dramáticas tradicionales.
