Reseña del libro "Xenophobia (en Inglés)"

Wyatt Kelley was your average white American teenager from Jackson, Mississippi. He made good grades, he played baseball at his high school and he was voted most likely to succeed. Everything in Wyatt's life was typical and predictable. He was the popular kid that everyone loved, his girlfriend was head cheerleader, and his father was mayor. Everything in his life was great. Then one day Wyatt's life changed.Wyatt started to fall behind in math and his coach threatened to kick him off the baseball team if he did not get his grades up. After weeks of trying to get his grades up to, no avail his father forced him to get a tutor. Wyatt loved going to his tutoring sessions. His tutor was beautiful, smart, and funny. The more time that Wyatt spent with her the more he began to like her. He liked her more than he had ever liked anyone before even more than he had ever liked his girlfriend.Wyatt wanted to tell her how he felt but he was afraid. He knew his father would not approve. His father use to say, "There's no way any child of mine would be caught dead with a nigger." Wyatt had never liked a black girl before but with Imani it was more than just a physical attraction it was love. Wyatt had not told anyone how he felt about Imani not even his best friend Connor Schmidt. He already knew what everyone would say and how they would treat him. He was the mayor's son and everyone expected him to be a certain way. No one in Jackson would openly admit to being a racist but it was an unsaid actuality.Racist behavior had once again become the norm, with the president of United States leading the charge against minorities and anyone who was deemed different and socially unacceptable. You could be harassed and or arrested for just existing, especially as a black person. He knew that no matter how smart or beautiful she was, how hard she worked or how well behaved she acted that when Wyatt's father looked at her all she saw was a little black girl not good enough for his son. Imani's father was just as unreasonable. All he saw when he looked at Wyatt was a white boy and over four hundred years of oppression. Even though they may have won the battle and stood up to their family they were not so sure they were ready for the war they would face against the world.
