Gastric cancer is the cancer, which develops in the lining of the stomach. Most stomach cancers are gastric carcinomas. Some of its early symptoms include upper abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea and loss of appetite. In its later stages, the cancer presents itself with yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eye, weight loss, vomiting and difficulty swallowing. More than 60% of gastric cancers are caused due to infection by Helicobacter pylori. If the cancer is detected and targeted early, it can be potentially cured. A gastroscopic exam involving the insertion of a fibre optic cable into the stomach, upper GI series and CT scanning of the abdomen can reveal gastric cancer.
